Here are a few walks around Ambleside which you can enjoy during your holiday:

Skelwith Bridge   5 miles   2 to 3 hours
Starting at the Brathay river bridge at Clappersgate, head towards Hawkshead. After about 200 yds follow the sign towards Skelwith. This walk is along the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell and reveals the outstanding beauty of the Lake District. You can rest at Chesters for a well earned cup of tea and a cake on arrival at Skelwith Bridge. Don’t forget your waterproof boots, just in case...

Lake Windermere   5.5 miles   3 to 4 hours.
Visit the stunning scenery of Windermere, the largest lake in England. You will also pass the Galava Roman Fort, and can enjoy the beautiful architecture of Ambleside and much more. Starts at Ambleside Market Place.

Stock Ghyll   2.5 miles walk   2 hours
A very popular short walk through woods. Enjoy the impressive Stock Ghyll Force, a 70 foot waterfall which is a tributary to Rothay River. Don’t forget your camera!

Loughrigg Fell   6.5 miles   3.5 to 4 hours
A good long walk around Loughrigg Fell. Enjoy panoramic views of Windermere, the Langdales and Grasmere. Starts at Ambleside Market Place.

The Vale of Rydal   3 mile   1.5 to 2 hours
Walk along the edge of the flat meadowlands, part of the picturesque Rydal Valley. A perfect choice for a family fun day in the Lakes.
