There is always plenty to do in the Lake District… here are some great ideas for family fun days!

Love animals? Enjoy a wild day out that you’ll never forget. Take your kids to see some of the rarest and most endangered animals in the world at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park!

You can take the boat from Windermere and visit the Lakes Aquarium or…

Take your family to an exciting Hawk Walk through stunning countryside and woodlands within the Lake District National Park in Cumbria.

Raining? Why not take your kids to the Ambleside Climbing Wall (situated just across the street from us), where parents can relax and watch their children climb from the overlooking cafe if they want to stay, or join in the fun climb as well.

Want more climbing? Try Go Ape for a real tree top adventure at Grizedale Forrest Park.

How about fishing? Esthwaite Water is the perfect place for fishing, having a picnic or just enjoy the stunning views.

You can find something for everyone, whatever the weather at Brockhole, The Lake District Visitor Centre. There are regular events including: family fun days, festive weekends, concerts, archery, games, children’s crafts, children adventure days and more, just a couple of miles from Ambleside.

Take a picnic basket and enjoy the beautiful countryside. You can take a boat from Ambleside to visit the amazing Victorian Wray Castle, where Beatrix Potter and her family enjoyed their holiday.

Another short and beautiful walk would let you discover Dove Cottage, and the William Wordsworth museum. They hold lots of family activities, which are generally free during school holidays.

Another heritage attraction which would be interesting for everyone is the Lakeland Motor Museum. A diverse and unique road transport collection of some 30,000 exhibits assembled over a period of almost 50 years.
